Specializing in the use of pensions as a retirement tool, I work with many state workers, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, and small business owners. The most common problem many people face is that they work too long. In some cases, years too long. An average of 5 years too long. Resulting in less time to enjoy retirement with their families doing things they want.

I am Lamar Simpson and I have been in the financial services industry for nearly 25 years. I started as an operations-type person— processing retirement plan paperwork for internal clients. I then became licensed in June 2000. Quickly thereafter, I chose to focus on assisting clients in a more comprehensive way. I concentrate on building 401k and other retirement accounts. This is in addition to supporting my clients with all aspects of their finances. My goal has always been to grow my clients’ wealth. In creating financial confidence for each client and their families.

In 2002, my wife and I decided it was time to start a family. I knew that no employer would give me the schedule I needed to be the father I wanted to be for my future children. Family always comes first, and that’s something you’ll hear me say often. So, I chose to embark on the journey of being self-employed. This freed me to spend time with my children. Be it chaperoning field trips, coaching sports teams, or just family time at home. We actively participate in martial arts, shooting sports, and many other activities together.

Professionally, my philosophy is that everyone should have a financial plan. A local teacher was referred to me. She had been teaching for 16-years in California. While she had the opportunity to contribute to her 403(b), she did not. The school districts she taught in offered a matching contribution. Meaning her employer would contribute up to a certain amount when she also contributed to her 403(b).

She missed out on nearly $80,000 in matching contributions. While this is a large dollar amount, it does not even consider growth. She also had a very poor mortgage, no life insurance, no estate plan, and no cash reserve to speak of. About a year later, she has established a trust, refinanced into a better mortgage. She also built a cash reserve with the money she saved on adjusting her budget. She has life insurance coverage, and we are well on the road to working toward her retirement goals. She paid a few and received more than quadruple in savings each year.

Just as we would never pull our own tooth, why determine complex financial decisions without a professional? My clients and myself, we all need this to be truly successful. For these reasons, I do not have account minimums. It’s more of an activity minimum. Meaning I want you to be engaged in your retirement planning because this is a partnership to pursue your goals. Neither of us can do this alone… As a money manger in Sacramento, part of my job is to grow assets rather than simply fostering them. Financial planning is a partnership that can only thrive when each of us carries our end of the log. I take pride in providing every client with targeted advice. My recommendations are based solely on their unique goals and current financial standing. Therefore, I work hard to build client trust in me, so they take actions in alignment with that guidance striving to grow their wealth.
